My Sweet Honey Bees,
Today is a day I will never forget.
I am honored, humbled, and overjoyed to share that Voices of Care: Real Stories to Inspire, Uplift, and Unite Caregivers has officially launched.
Today, I step into a new chapter of my life—not only as an artist, but as a published author.
This journey has been deeply personal for me. My chapter, “I’m Not a Nurse” (Chapter 6), tells the story of caring for my father during one of the most vulnerable seasons of his life. It is a story of love, strength, sacrifice, and the unexpected ways life calls us to rise.
My father was not only my parent, but a musician whose legacy shaped my life. As a saxophonist, he spent more than twenty years performing with the legendary B. B. King and previously served as bandleader for Bobby for sixteen years. Caring for him was one of the greatest honors of my life—and one of the most challenging.
Like so many caregivers, I found myself stepping into a role I was never formally prepared for. I wasn’t a nurse… but I showed up with love.
And that is what this book represents.
Voices of Care, compiled by Carl J. Powell, brings together the stories of incredible individuals who have walked the caregiving journey. Each voice in this collection offers truth, courage, and connection. Together, we are reminding the world of one powerful message:
You are not alone.
