On June 21st, The Black Box becomes more than a listening room, it becomes sacred ground.

Freedom In Blues is an intimate musical journey honoring Juneteenth, the day freedom was announced, the day truth caught up with history, the day resilience sang louder than chains.

Through blues, jazz, gospel, and story, we gather to remember. To reflect. To celebrate the unbreakable spirit woven into our music.

The blues was never just sorrow; it was survival. It was coded language. It was faith under pressure. It was joy that refused to die.

This afternoon will move through the lineage of sound that carried our ancestors forward and still carries us today. Songs of struggle. Songs of triumph. Songs that whisper and songs that wail.

In the intimacy of The Black Box, every note is personal. Every breath is shared. Every silence is intentional.

This is not just a performance. It is a listening experience. A remembering. A celebration of freedom still unfolding.

The Black Box Sessions: Poetry in Blues

The Black Box Sessions is an intimate, soulful live experience where poetry and music come together to create connection, reflection, and community.

In celebration of National Poetry Month and with the spirit of International Jazz Day in the air, Poetry in Blues features powerful spoken word accompanied by rich, live soul and jazz instrumentation from Habaka & Soulful Stew, under the musical direction of Michael Evans. This session invites you into a listening space — where words breathe, rhythms respond, and stories find room to land.

Designed as a cultural gathering, not just a show, The Black Box Sessions centers shared experience. You’ll feel close to the artists. You’ll feel held by the music. You’ll leave with something stirred inside you.

Seating is limited to preserve the intimacy of the room. Tickets are already selling, and this session is expected to fill quickly.

Presented by Soul Nectar Productions and led by award-winning vocalist Habaka, 2019 Black Music Awards Winner for Best Female Jazz Performer (Las Vegas) and named Ambassador of the Blues by the Las Vegas Blues Society, this experience is built on nuance, space, and connection.

A carefully curated ensemble of grand piano, guitar, snare drum textures, muted horn, and voice creates a rich yet restrained soundscape where every breath, lyric, and note can be heard.
